What is Augmentation Mastopexy?
Augmentation mastopexy is the medical term of combining a breast uplift (mastopexy) with breast implants(augmentation).
What are the reasons for having a breast uplift with implants?
Augmentation mastopexy surgery enlarges the volume and reshapes the breasts. For ladies whose nipples and/or breast tissue sit too low on their chest wall, an uplift returns the breasts to a more central position on their chests. With an uplift alone it is rarely possible to increase the volume of the upper poles of the breasts, and the breasts have a more "ski-slope" appearance. For those who want fuller upper poles or want to increase the overall size of their breasts, breast implants are used in combination with a lift.
Where are the implants placed?
With augmentation mastopexy I usually recommend placing the implants beneath the muscles. This is because the nipple position is moved with an uplift, and it is important to maintain the blood supply to the nipple to ensure good healing without complications. Going beneath the muscles with the implants is less likely to interrupt the blood supply to the nipples.
Is this surgery safe?
Combining an uplift with implants is trickier and slightly more risky than preforming them in separation. Very rarely I do suggest that they are performed separately. Read more under the "Implants" and "Mastopexy" sections.
